2011 CSA Season
Now taking a small amount of sign ups for 2011
We're scaling back this year, so spots will fill up fast.
How it works:
When you sign up for our CSA, you purchase a share of the fruits and vegetables that we
produce here. You'll follow our gardens, orchards, and berry patches through the growing
season as we harvest our organically grown produce at the peak of its freshness in season.
How long is it?
We're going to start around the end of June and go through the end of September. We're adding
an extra pickup in the spring to catch strawberry season and get some spring lettuce at the peak
of its flavor, probably around May. I hate starting too late and missing strawberry season entirely,
but there's not much else to fill the baskets in early June.
How do I pickup?
We have two pickup days once a week where you'll come to the park and grab a basket of
whatever is growing. When you signup, you can choose Tuesday evening or Friday morning. If
you can't make it one week, we ask that someone else picks up for you as our fresh vegetables
don't keep long or email me to arrange a different pickup time.
What can I expect in my basket?
We try to grow things with culinary appeal such as delicious salad mixes, heirloom tomatoes,
unique peppers, divine cucumbers, sugar snap peas, tasty winter squash, all types of summer
squash, and anything else that catches our fancy in the seed catalogs. We take suggestions of
what to plant as well so check out Johnny's seeds or High Mowing and see what you want us
How many pounds?
That, I do not know. We're operating on a different style than -price per pound- grocery stores,
which has encouraged growers to produce over fertilized, tasteless fruits and vegetables that
look appealing, but have little culinary or nutritional value. We plant based on the number of
signups we have and let the plants slow grow out in the gardens with a little compost and some
sea minerals. We don't aggressively spray the bugs and only use organic methods that are
least harmful.. but that means the bugs eat their fare share of what we grow too.
What's left, we harvest and put into baskets. It starts out light with spring lettuces and greens,
and then move into summer squash, cucumbers, and then we get to the heavyweights that
almost break the baskets - tomatoes, apples and winter squash.
What's the price?
One season is $300. We offer herbs each week for an extra $32. Your spot is reserved when I
receive payment.
How do I signup?
Use the link on this page or email me at janeehouston@gmail.com to signup. Spots fill up very
quickly and returning customers are offered the first spots. We try to keep it small so I can try
remember everyone's names.
Any other questions, just email me at janeehouston@gmail.com
I'll post on here when all spots are filled for the season. I can't wait for seed sprouting soon!
